Cold That You Feel Come take all that you want from me, tonight All that I cannot be, sunlight Streaming through darkened trees Ignite all of my broken dreams With all that you are With all that you are Excuse the cold that you feel The distance in my eyes The cold that you feel Excuse the distance in my voice The pain that you see The distance in my eyes Love spit in my eyes tonight And I’ll run and put all my fears to flight Come on, all this I leave behind Erase and pull me to something right One day I’m going to see you there One day I’m going to see you there One day I’m going to see you there One day I’ll see you there, excuse

Strange Food 04:51
Strange Food Rose up this morning Don’t believe what I saw All of the people are talking of war and baying for blood And I heard the politicians calling on the fire to fall Saying strange food is going to fall like rain on the poor And they tell you it’s love Can you tell it to the father who will lose his only son Can you tell it to the child whose left alone Don’t tell me it’s love I heard men talking About grain to feed the world Saying there’s a way to fight this war without wounds But that won’t sell arms It’s more than a feeling inside I’m grieving Longing to see this love I want to see this love Strange food for the hungry Belly-full but they’re hungry It’s a strange food for the hungry

Leave Me Alone Beckon to me make me beg make me plead Take me into your room and you make me believe I can be yours I can get through the door Give me a kiss and now I’m wanting more Shower me with praise and it’s hard to escape The feeling I get when I look at your face And you tear me apart as you stand in the wake Tears of regret one more mistake Leave me alone Leave me alone Leave me alone don’t let me love you Give me a chance to dance a little romance A way to improve on my circumstance Love is a gift but I’m feeling the rift Tell me how many times can I shoot just to miss It’s starting to feel like an old cliché You are the risk that I just couldn’t take And you tear me apart as I stand in the wake No turning back one more mistake Leave me alone Leave me alone Leave me alone don’t let me love you Come on to me make me beg make me plead Take me into your room and you make me believe I can be yours I can get through the door You give me a kiss and now I’m wanting more Shower me with praise and it’s hard to escape The feelings I get when I look at your face And you tear me apart as you stand in the wake No turning back one more mistake

Hell Hound 05:08
Hell Hound Sometimes I feel like world is cold And I feel like there’s no way home And you feel like you’re all alone I was born with a black cloud over me I was born with a black cloud over I was born when the sun rose over me Devils call with a hell hound on my trail Devils call with a hell hound on my trail I was born when the sun rose over me I was born with a raging thirst I was born with a raging thirst I was born when the sun rose over me Hear the story see the blood shed Hear the violence in my voice dread See the blood flow in the ditches Burning bridges burning crosses See the man come in the moonlight Like a dark priest all dressed in white Sounds of freedom from the darkness Victory sleepless justice tireless I was born with a black cloud over me I was born with a black cloud over I was born when the sun broke over me

Guns In The Distance Lately I’ve been thinking about Guns in the distance About sweet soul resistance About deliverance, deliverance Lately I’ve been hoping Or dare I say it praying About heavy chain breaking Emancipations and revelations Now that you find it it’s tangible Now that you taste it you’re ready to be full Emancipation like burning oil Smoke fills the sky something beautiful Woo woo Guns in the distance Lately I’ve been thinking about The dark shadows and empty sheets About iron fists and clay feet Eyes full of tears from the blood in the streets Lately I’ve been staring into Dark eyes from broken souls A new sound from the undertow The fire getting higher and flame taking hold Now that you find it it’s tangible Now that you taste it you’re ready to be full Emancipation like burning oil Smoke fills the sky something beautiful Woo woo Guns in the distance

Rise 04:03
Rise Here lies my soul buried under waves of doubt Here stains my heart broken and all ripped apart I run but I fall hoping not to lose it all I’m down for the count wanting in but feeling out Can I rise Can I rise Rise my soul Here comes the train that brings me back to you again Both sides of my heart reaching for a higher part And I can’t take the blame I don’t have money with which to pay I’ll come and I’ll die like a new day I will rise I’ll rise, I’ll rise Come rise, my soul will rise Come rise, my soul will rise Come rise, my soul will rise Come rise, my soul will rise I will rise Rise my soul Here comes the rain that brings me back to you again Both sides of my heart reaching for a higher part I can’t take the blame I don’t have money with which to pay I’ll come and I’ll die like a new day I will rise 6

Soul Collides Way down, down on myself I’m crawling crippled by fear Sick and tired of the breeze Of screaming down on my knees Just trying to find the food to feed my hungry hole Trying to find the food to feed my lost soul Bleeding need from heart I’m seeping in to the flood Sick and tired of my skin Of beating trying to get in Trying to find the food to feed my lost soul Trying to find the food to feed my hungry hole I can’t deny what I feel inside Though I wait in the night like a bird I’ll rise When my soul collides When my soul collides When my soul collides Like a bird in flight I’ll wing © Verra Cruz 2006

Deliver Us 05:21
Deliver Us All through the night all through the day The evil I see is creeping over me All through the night like slaves they wait Burdened by fear chained by the fate They cry deliver us They cry deliver us Deliver us from evil Cold comfort’s blinding me Respectable is the beast From chains I will not see Grief waiting to release She comes to me like a drug In lust with oil and blood I won’t kneel when you call to me Deliver us from evil All through the fight all through the fray Workers bowed low or they won’t get their pay All through the night this greed filled game Incessant the flow of fuel for the rage They cry deliver us They cry deliver us Deliver us from evil Cold comfort’s blinding me Respectable is the beast From chains I will not see Grief waiting to release She comes to you like a drug In lust with oil and blood I won’t kneel when you call to me Deliver us from evil

Rock And A Hard Place I have tried to love give you all that I am I have tried too much feeling half a man Oh I feel the grief I’m seeing no way out, no way out If you don’t talk to me I might not make it out, make it now And I’m trying to be You know I’m feeling the squeeze Sick and tired of being between a rock and a hard place Water running down to the lowest place Sorrow reaches out and bites the hand of grace Lord I feel the need it’s pouring down like rain, down like rain Clouds have covered me and I forget my name And I’m trying to be You know I’m feeling the squeeze Sick and tired of being between a rock and a hard place I feel the need Take me higher Take me deeper

Storm Will Come Falling from the fire See the truth in all desire See the revolution feelings Clawing at my ceiling See the burdened or the freer See the child who’s nowhere near Rapist or the seer Storm will come And when it comes like the rain Let it wash you again The storm will come Crawling from your thrones Calling out the clones See the image that’s receding The crime the thief the kneeling Breaking on the shores With a constant lust for more Like a demon at your door Storm will come And when it comes like the rain Feel it wash you again Storm will come I still can’t find a reason Staring at my ceiling Tears fall down my face Cause I can’t see no sunrise When I look in your eyes Tears fall down my face Storm will come Spitting like fire and falling like the setting sun And when it comes like the rain Feel it wash you again Storm will come

Lead Me 03:09
Lead Me Sweet love won’t you lead me on I don’t belong here and I’m far from home All that I’ve lived for is just sinking sand Oh love won’t you take my hand I want to be in the place where you are I want to be in the place where you are

about

Emancipation Day, like most debut albums, was the culmination of years of touring in small vans, playing small shows to small audiences and independently releasing EP's and singles. Emancipation Day succeeded in capturing the essence of the band - this is classic rock, with stone-age guitars, blue-sky melodies and an earth-shifting rhythm section.

In 2005 having already scrapped a previous attempt of the album recorded earlier that year, the band were struggling to survive. But in December, determined to make an album, they reconvened with old studio compadre Paul Burton and work started at his studio G2 in Littlehampton, UK. It seems that the Burton/Cruz combination was meant to be and Metal Hammer praised the album; "Emancipation Day is a fully formed rock opus: 44 minutes of great hard rock songs fired into consciousness. There is definitely something satisfying and filling about Emancipation Day, like suet pudding." Classic Rock said, "This is modern, meaningful rock music, with stadium-sized riffs and serious messages."
